5 Styling Tricks That Make Your Outfit Pop

Ever put on an outfit and feel like it’s almost there, but something’s missing? That extra spark? The “you” factor? Making an outfit pop isn’t about piling on trends — it’s about adding intentional touches that bring personality, dimension, and confidence to whatever you’re wearing.

Here’s how I make my outfits stand out without trying too hard — and some personal shopping tips along the way.

1. Statement Earrings That Steal the Show

If you’ve followed me for a while, you already know:

I’m always on the hunt for fun, cute earrings.

Call them novelty earrings, call them personality earrings — I just love pieces that are playful, colorful, or shaped like something unexpected.

My go-to brands?

BaubleBar, Betsey Johnson, Amazon, and TJ Maxx (I’ve found some real gems at TJ Maxx).

Earrings frame your face and instantly transform an outfit, even a simple tee and jeans.

Try this: Swap your regular studs for something oversized, sparkly, sculptural, or quirky.

2. Play With Prints (Your Way — Not Fashion Rulebook Style)

Print mixing is like the next step above basic Style 101 — and once you understand the formula, it becomes so fun.

Here’s how I make it work:

If you want a cohesive look:

Match prints by pulling similar colors or undertones.

Example: A plaid skirt with a hint of orange paired with a top that includes orange somewhere in the print.

If you want to clash on purpose:

Do it intentionally! Wear zebra with leopard. Wear stripes with florals.

Then choose one bold color to bring the whole outfit together.

It’s that mix of chaos and coordination that makes the outfit pop.

3. Play With Proportion (Especially Helpful If You’re Petite Like Me)

Because I’m shorter with long legs and a shorter torso, proportions can make or break an outfit for me.

My favorite silhouette:

High-waisted bottoms + a cropped top

It elongates my legs and balances my shape.

But proportions are also fun to experiment with:

  • An oversized button-down with a corset

  • A mini dress layered over wide-leg pants

  • A slouchy sweater with a structured skirt

It’s all about balance — big with small, loose with fitted, soft with structured.

4. Pops of Color (and Pattern!) in the Right Places

A pop of color doesn’t have to be just one item — and it doesn’t have to be loud, but it can be if that's what you like.

You can layer 2–3 pops:

A hat + earrings + shoes

A bag + nails + lip

A pair of tights + scarf + hair accessory

As long as the base of your outfit is neutral or monochrome, you can play.

And here’s the twist:

Your “pop” doesn’t have to be color — it can be pattern.

A zebra heel.

A plaid beret.

A floral bag.

A striped sock.

Treat color and pattern the same way — as tools to create intentional interest.

5. Confidence Is the Final Accessory

No matter what you wear, your confidence is the thing people notice first.

And it works both ways:

If you feel good in an outfit — you glow.

If you don’t feel good in it — that shows too.

One thing that really helped me boost confidence in my style:

Recording videos of my outfits

This helps me see movement and get a feel for the outfit. Not everyone will want to do that, but honestly, it helps.

And if nothing else:

A full-length mirror is essential.

If you can’t see your whole outfit, how do you know what it really looks like?

Final Thoughts

Don’t wait for a special occasion to wear something fun.

Don’t save your best outfits for “when you go somewhere.”

Make every day an opportunity to add a little personality.

Whether you’re running errands, grabbing coffee, or heading out for dinner — these small details are how you make your outfits pop in a way that feels like you.

Fashion should be fun.

Let’s keep it that way.

Until next time, -skyechanel
