If there’s one thing I love about fall, it’s the layers. Layering is where style really comes alive—you can play with proportions, textures, colors, and make a look feel effortless but intentional. The trick? Finding formulas that work over and over, while still leaving space for creativity.

These are my go-to outfit equations this season—formulas I actually use in my own closet, with room to remix depending on my mood.

1. Blazer + Graphic Tee + Wide-Leg Pants + Statement Earrings

This combo is my definition of cool-girl polish. The blazer adds structure, the graphic tee keeps it casual, and wide-leg pants make the proportions modern. Add a pair of oversized, sculptural earrings and suddenly it looks like you tried way harder than you did. Bonus: swap sneakers for heels and you’ve got a perfect day-to-night fit.

2. Knit Dress + Oversized Jacket + Belt + Ankle Boots

Fall is knit dress season—but I don’t leave mine plain. Throw on an oversized (moto) jacket, cinch the waist with a chunky belt, and ground the whole look with ankle boots. It’s cozy meets edgy, and the kind of outfit that feels both powerful and comfortable (two of my favorite things).

3. Turtleneck + Slip Dress + Textured Tights + Layered Necklaces + Chunky Loafers

This one always feels a little unexpected. Layer a fitted turtleneck under a satin slip dress, add textured tights, and finish with layered necklaces for sparkle. I like grounding it with chunky loafers—sleek enough for polish but a little edgy so it doesn’t read too sweet. Perfect for a coffee date or even Thanksgiving dinner when you want to look polished but relaxed.

4. Cropped Sweater + High-Waist Skirt + Knee-High Boots + Bold Earrings

Sometimes, it’s about balancing volume and shape. A cropped sweater with a high-waist skirt keeps the proportions right, and knee-high boots instantly scream fall chic. I always reach for bold earrings here because they frame the face and pull the whole outfit together without being too “matchy.”

5. Longline Coat + Monochrome Base + Pop of Print or Color + Pointed-Toe Boots

ree

When in doubt, I go monochrome underneath—black turtleneck and trousers, or cream sweater and pants—then throw on a longline coat and let accessories bring the fun. Think leopard print scarf, cherry-red earrings, or even a bold bag. Pointed-toe boots finish it off, keeping the whole look sharp and elongated.

Why These Formulas Work

The beauty of layering is that it’s less about rules and more about rhythm. Each formula mixes structure + softness, timeless + trendy, simple + statement. That balance is what makes an outfit look intentional without looking forced. And the best part? You don’t need an overflowing closet. You just need to know how to remix the pieces you already have.

Final thought: Style isn’t about never repeating an outfit—it’s about repeating what works in new, creative ways. These layering formulas are the ones I’ll be reaching for all season, and I bet once you try them, you’ll want to repeat them too.
